Resident Evil (2026 film) - a gory allegory (it rhymes ...)

Greetings, commies!

Halloween is around the corner. I hope you have made it to the movie theaters to see Resident Evil. During a chaotic viral outbreak in Raccoon City, an ordinary medical courier named Bryan Hodukavich (Austin Abrams) must navigate a terrifying, puzzle-filled night to deliver a life-saving treatment to a remote hospital.

I normally don't see movies based on video games, but this one has its own autonomous mythology and a surprisingly deep message about social contagion and mass hysteria.

I took this movie as an allegory on the origin of rumors. It starts with an isolated murmur. Then it rapidly infects people's minds, fuses, morphs into a pernicious myth and gets larger than life. In a way, the movie is a cautionary tale for the impressionable 21st century people who rely on social media rumors. You don't want to become a part of one huge, hideous collection of lies.
